Roundup: Bordeaux

In the past few weeks, I’ve written a lot about my trip to Bordeaux with my mom. And to make it easier for you to plan, here are all of my top tips.

Stay in an actual castle

If you want to do Bordeaux in style, I recommend you don’t stay in a hotel, but spend a few extra bucks and stay in an actual, honest-to-god chateau (with a moat). With breakfast and pool included, the Chateau Lamothe du Prince Noir is the perfect basecamp for some time in Bordeaux.

Hike up a dune and get sand everywhere

Hiking up and along the Dune du Pilat is a great way to burn off some calories and get a suntan (or burn).

Have some wine

There are plenty of options for trying all the different wines of Bordeaux. My favourite is probably the wine tour. What you do is, you rent a van with a driver and guide and get hauled around the region from vineyard to vineyard, getting progressively drunker.
An alternative, if you don’t have a whole day, is to drive to a town like Saint-Emilion and to visit the wine shops there.

See the sights in Bordeaux

Of course, no stay in Bordeaux would be complete without visiting the city itself! Visit the cathedral and have a wander through its streets. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it in Bordeaux itself.

Stuff your face

There are plenty of good restaurants in Bordeaux. Some good recommendations are Les Secrets Ch√Ęteau Pey la Tour for a lovely sit-down dinner and La Villa Loubisienne for Carribean inspired food.

And there you have it, plenty to see, eat and do in Bordeaux.
