Whoop whoop! Finally, I have gotten around to clearing out my skincare and makeup to give you my first empties roundup of 2019.
Things I’ve passed on or tossed
There were quite a few products that I only used once, before passing them on, as well as a bunch where I really thought they would be good stuff. The Elizavecca Milky Piggy Carbonated Bubble Clay Mask has been hyped like crazy and so I caved and bought it. While the bubbling sensation is amazing, the mask felt super drying and besides getting everywhere, made me also break out a lot on my chin. The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Light Cleansing Oil, bought as a replacement for my Hada Labo cleansing oil (below) also fell into the “broke me out” category. besides that, I also felt that it didn’t really clean my skin and it left a weird film all over my skin after rinsing with water. I’ve since used it to clean foundation off my hands when doing my makeup, but I always have to go in with soap to get my hands really clean.
Another weird little product was the Rohto Melano CC Concentration Measures Essence which I bought because I wanted to try out vitamin C. I don’t think it really did anything on me, besides giving me lots of bumps on my forehead. A big fail and a surprising one at that was the Alpha H Liquid Gold exfoliator. I had tried the Rose Gold exfoliator from the Marks and Spencer advent calendar and had loved it. So naturally, I purchased the original since the rose gold was limited edition. I should have known better since the original is a glycolic exfoliator and my skin hates glycolic acids with a passion. Clinique’s Even Better foundation was also a big miss for me. The sales lady completely miss matched my colour, telling me that that was the pales shade available (no they have paler shades online). Besides the colour, I also found that it slid around my face like crazy, especially around my nose, where I expected it to last best since it was described as “oil-free and long wearing”. Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser was in my Kiehl’s advent calendar. It is very drying for me, so I’ve passed it on. Finally, the Biore UV Aqua Rich sunscreen was also a repurchase, that I had to toss because it expired.
Stuff I finished
Etude House Drawing Eye Brow and essence make me brow are my favourite brow products and will definitely be repurchased once I’ve finished my other products. MISSHA Magic Cushion Moist Up in 21 Light Beige was a repurchase, while the MISSHA Magic Cushion Cover Lasting (#21 Light Beige) and a refill, where new to me. Both are great foundations, and I will definitely repurchase them at some point. Just a hint of warning: the Cover Lasting is much darker than the Moist up and thus for me is more of a summer foundation.
Purchased in a fit of desperation, the Weleda almond face cream was a perfect skin rescuer for when my skin decided to go full crazy this winter. I have since repurchased it for my trip to China.
I finished a lot of cleansers which I have or will repurchase. The Hada Labo Goku-Jyun Super Hyaluronic Face Foam is a super hydrating cleanser, which I have already repurchased. And as I mentioned nothing can currently replace my beloved Mentholatum – Hada Labo Goku-Jyun Oil Cleansing Makeup Remover, in my opinion, the best oil cleanser I’ve encountered so far. I also finished the Hada Labo Goku-Jyun Premium Hyaluronic Acid Lotion, which I have replaced with the Moist version. For hair, a long time favourite has been the Kiehl’s Smoothing Oil-Infused Conditioner. Unfortunately, the packaging is absolute crap and so it took me over a year to finish it. Since I’ve started using the Mixa Calming Body Lotion, I have repurchased it like three times. It is really amazing in hydrating and calming my skin and dries down quickly without being tacky or itchy.
I’ve finished or gotten rid off a lot of stuff, but my beauty case for China is still very large! Expect a couple more reviews soon, as I try out new and exciting things.
